You Had One Job - A Review

YOU HAD ONE JOB by Beverly L. Jenkins

We’ve all seen them all over the Internet – the tagline “You Had One Job” – and then a picture of a seemingly simple task gone horribly wrong.  If those make you chuckle and shake your head in disbelief then Ms. Jenkins’ book is one you will enjoy.

Ms. Jenkins has taken some examples of these workplace and signage errors and compiled them into a book.  Now one may ask, how is that original?  Anyone can take images from the Internet, slap them together and call it a book.  True enough, but Ms. Jenkins takes it that one step further and adds her own humorous (dare I use the word sarcastic) captions to the photos.

When I have come across examples of these “You Had ONE Job” photos on the Internet I always questioned whether some of them were photo-shopped or set up on purpose.  This book did little to dispel my doubts.  The collection does include the “classics” … road painting gone awry or misspelled and grocery store items woefully mislabeled, as well as some very unfortunate product errors and street sign mishaps.  There is a good sampling of the pictures.

I’ll have to go with a middle of the road 3-stars on this one.  While I think that any effort may have been negligible the captions were very entertaining.  I was in the middle of a rather “information intense” non-fiction read and needed something to give my brain a little bit a break.  This book did the trick.

I would like to thank the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.
